Join Fitness Elements and Celebrate Popcorn Poppin' Month in Style!

PoppyDid you Know October is National Popcorn Poppin’ Month?

For more than 25 years, October has been celebrated as National Popcorn Poppin’ Month; however, it became "official" in 1999, when then Secretary of Agriculture Dan Glickman proclaimed October as National Popcorn Poppin’ Month.

While every day is a great day for celebrating popcorn, we chose the month of October because of the popcorn harvest which takes place each fall in the Midwest. Each year when the new crop is harvested, it reminds us popcorn will always be the naturally fun snack for the entire family. Popcorn Poppin' Month is the perfect time to celebrate popcorn.

Are you Aware October is National Roller Skating Month?

Discover the Exercise Benefits of Roller Skating

»Studies have shown that roller skating provides a complete aerobic workout and involves all of the body's muscles, especially the heart.

»Roller skating is equivalent to jogging in terms of health benefits-caloric consumption, reduction of body fat, and leg strength development.

»Roller skating is recognized and recommended by the American Heart Association (AHA) as an aerobic fitness sport.

»Just one hour of moderate roller skating burns 330 calories for a 143-pound person. If that same person roller skates vigorously, he or she will burn up to 590 calories in an hour.

»The number of calories burned per hour while skating at 6 mph is 350 and 600 while skating at 10 mph.

»According to a study conducted at the University of Massachusetts, in-line skating causes less than 50 percent of the impact shock to joints compared to running.

»If someone roller skates one day, bicycles another, and swims or runs on another, the person will be getting all the fitness benefits that aerobics can offer.

»According to Dr. Carl Foster, associate professor of medicine at the University of Wisconsin Medical School, in-line skating as a form of exercise is as beneficial as running or cycling. (Information from International Inline Skating Association website)

»During a 30-minute period, on the average, in-line skating at a steady, comfortable rate expends 285 calories and produces a heart rate of 148 beats per minute. (Information from International Inline Skating Association website)

Did you know October is National Physical Therapy Month

Improving Mobility & Motion

No matter what area of the body ails you – neck, shoulder, back, knee – physical therapists have an established history of helping individuals improve their quality of life.

A physical therapist can help you improve your quality of life by moving freely again without pain and discomfort and feeling renewed and ready to move on. They can even help you prevent an injury altogether.

For instance, a study of 1,435 NCAA Division 1 female soccer players demonstrated that those who participated in a physical therapy program had an overall ACL injury rate 41 percent lower than those who did only a regular warm-up prior to practice.

Because physical therapists receive specialized training in a variety of sciences – physics, human anatomy, kinesiology (human movement), to name a few– they understand how the body works and how to get you moving again. They know how to manage all four of the body’s major systems – musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiovascular/pulmonary, and integumentary (skin) – to restore and maximize mobility.

Whether you are living with diabetes, recovering from a stroke, a fall or a sports injury, a physical therapist is a trusted health care professional who will work closely with you to evaluate your condition and develop an effective, personalized plan of care. A physical therapist can help you achieve long-term results for many conditions, such as repetitive stress injuries, arthritis, back and neck pain and posture problems.

P.S. Fitness Elements
supports fellow Health Care professionals and believes in Physical Therapy if you need a referral to a great Physical Therapist in your area just let us know and we will help you find an excellent Health Care provider today! 480-212-1947 or fitnesselementsexpress@yahoo.com
