How To Conquer Weight loss Reluctance

Five Steps to Conquer Weight loss Reluctance

What is weight loss reluctance? It is best typified by the the health and fitness seeker who hangs out around the gyms, outside or even at home every morning drinking coffee and chewing the fat with other health and fitness seekers rather than getting in a productive habit of a successful weight loss program that sets you up for maximizing serious results for the earliest possible start; the health and fitness seeker who shuffles around without a proper unique program designed for them is unplanned and will not get results period. The fact is like anything else weight training and good nutritional habits for weight loss should have a path and plan for measurable results. The one who procrastinates all day long by rationalizing will not be successful and see the desired results they seek and deserve.

How can we specifically apply this to conquering weight loss reluctance? As with most things , a problem honestly acknowledged is at lest half solved. If you will confront your habit of avoidance and take it on with the determination to chase it out of your daily life, this alone is much more than just the first step of a lengthy journey; instead, it is a giant leap toward your weight loss success. A leap that puts you perhaps halfway to your goal.

Over the years, I have met and had lengthy conversations with many of my top professional clients. Almost without exception, these men and women had struggled off and on over the years with approaching weight loss and at some point in their life and ultimately made a decision , a committment to move from avoidance to confrontation. I don't mean confrontation in the negative sense, by the way. I mean confronting your own demons with bold and brave determination. Having the courage to rid yourself and your life of any particular demon, in this case , weight loss reluctance , is almost magical in its power. By taking action and facing the true root to those demons and applying forgiveness and letting go these clients finally achieved lasting results.

Apply these five steps to your successfull weight loss approach and see how they make your efforts fast forward a notch with greater results and success.

  • Step 1: Choose Exercises and Eating plans you feel good about doing and taking action on.
  • Step 2: Be 110% Sold on What Method or Program You Approach
  • Step 3: Try Recalling Past Accomplishments With Your Weight loss Efforts
  • Step 4: Use Mental Rehearsal for Success
  • Step 5: When that little tension ball starts to appear Relaxation techniques works every time

I hope you enjoy these tips and really search deep on how you can use these tried and true techniques to have more success with your health, fitness, and weight loss goals. Have a healthy and happy day!

Amazing New Discovery in Brown Fat!

What if you had a special kind of fat in your body that burned calories instead of storing them -- and it could be activated simply by spending time in the cold? According to three preliminary studies published Wednesday in the New England Journal of Medicine, you probably do.
A type of fat in the body burns calories and could be activated by spending time in the cold.

A type of fat in the body burns calories and could be activated by spending time in the cold.

Brown adipose tissue (called brown fat) helps babies, young children, and other small mammals stay warm by burning calories when activated by low temperatures. Scientists have been skeptical that adults retain significant amounts of brown fat on their bodies. But the new research shows that many of us -- perhaps even most -- do.

"The incredible excitement about this is that we have an entirely new way to try to go after obesity," said Dr. Aaron Cypess of the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, Massachusetts, the lead author of one of the new studies. Every obesity drug now on the market aims at getting people to take in fewer calories, Cypess pointed out. The current findings, while very preliminary, suggest that drugs could be developed that fire up brown fat activity and help people burn calories faster.

The new research is important because it confirms that adults have brown fat involved in temperature regulation, while also probably playing a role in whether a person is lean or overweight, said Jan Nedergaard, a professor at the Wenner-Gren Institute at the University of Stockholm in Sweden who has been studying brown fat for 30 years, but was not involved in the current research.

"Brown fat can be a very significant player in the game of how we react to the food we eat and whether we store it or burn it away," Nedergaard said.

While scientists have known about brown fat and what it does for decades, it's been nearly impossible to study it in live humans until very recently. Finding it in people's bodies meant taking tissue samples, so scientists mostly stuck to studying it in lab animals. Health.com: Fats to eat, fats to avoid

This changed when nuclear medicine specialists observed that some people had deposits of tissue that looked like fat but didn't act like it; this fat-like tissue was located above the collarbones and in the upper chest and consumed lots of energy. Conversely, white adipose tissue -- the regular fat that stores extra calories and makes us gain weight -- shows very little metabolic activity.
Don't Miss

Scientists began investigating whether this mystery tissue might be the elusive brown fat. In the new NEJM reports, three independent research teams have confirmed that this is the case, indeed, and that integrated positron-emission tomography and computed tomography (PET-CT) scans can be used not only to identify it but to measure its metabolic activity.

In their report, Cypess and his colleagues reviewed 3,640 PET-CT scans performed on 1,972 patients at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston for various diagnostic reasons. Among women, 7.5 percent had patches of brown fat that were more than 4 millimeters in diameter, while 3.1 percent of men had similar patches. Health.com: Cut up to 900 calories with simple substitutions

"The people who had brown fat were, in fact, different from the people who didn't," Cypess explained: They were younger and leaner. People who were older, those who were obese, and those using heart drugs called beta blockers were less likely to have brown fat.

Cypess and his team also found that people whose scans were done in the winter had the most brown fat, while those scanned in the summer had the least; people who underwent the tests in the spring or fall fell in the middle.

Researchers from the Maastricht University Medical Center in the Netherlands, in the second study, looked at how temperature affected brown fat activity in 24 healthy men, also using PET-CT. When the volunteers sat in a room kept at 72° F for two hours, none of their scans showed brown fat activity. But when they were exposed to slightly chillier conditions -- about 61° F -- 23 showed brown fat activity. The 10 men who were lean (with body mass indexes of less than 25) had more brown fat than the 14 who were overweight or obese, and their brown fat was also more active.

"That's really new, that so many people do have brown adipose tissue," said lead author Wouter D. van Marken Lichtenbelt.

In the third study, Dr. Sven Enerback, of the University of Goteborg in Sweden, used PET to examine how cold temperatures affected brown fat activity, this time in five people. Participants spent two hours in a room kept at 63° F to 66° F. During the scan, they submerged one foot in ice water, alternating five minutes in the water and five minutes out. The cold conditions boosted the amount of glucose the study participants' brown fat consumed by a factor of 15.

In an accompanying editorial, Dr. Francesco Celi, of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases in Bethesda, Maryland, noted that "taken together, these studies point to a potential 'natural' intervention to stimulate energy expenditure: Turn down the heat and burn calories (and reduce the carbon footprint in the process)."

This is obviously an oversimplification, Celi said, but the demonstration that adults have brown fat that can be activated is, nevertheless, "powerful proof of concept" that the tissue could be a target for obesity-fighting drugs or even environmental fat-fighting strategies.

While Cypess is excited about the possibility of drugs that help people burn more calories, he warned that such medicines wouldn't allow people to slim down without eating healthy and becoming more active. Health.com: Healthy foods that help burn fat

The maximum amount of extra energy that people with relatively large brown fat deposits can burn probably tops out at about 500 calories. "It doesn't take much extra food to eliminate any benefit you've got," he said. "I personally don't think that hanging out in the cold is going to be an effective way of fighting obesity."

Major Breakthrough in Exercise and Diabetes

Major Breakthrough in Exercise and Diabetes

Are you Qualified and Following these training Guidelines?

Epidemiology/ Etiology

Normally the human body works like a smoothly operating food processor. It transforms foods into energy- energy necessary for activities of normal daily living and including exercise. The hormone insulin is a vitalog in the process, allowing sugars in the bloodstream to enter the muscles cells, where energy production occurs. In the diabetic this system does not operate properly , and the body is unable to convert sugars and startches from the diet into energy . Without adequate insulin in the blood , glucose accumulates in the bloodstream. This disorder often results in serious complications to nearly every organ in the body . There are two forms of diabetes:

1. Insulin dependent or Type I (IDDM), which affects children and young adults and is the more intensive version. It is characterized by reduction in the inability of the pancreas to produce insulin, and the person must have doses of insulin daily.

2. Non- insulin dependent or Type II (NIDDM) diabetes have fewer insulin receptor cells and an intracellular defect. It strikes mostly overweight and over 40-year -old adults. Type II diabetes is due largely to lifestyle, with obesity being the number one risk factor; it is well accepted that heredity is also a factor.

Studies of exercise performance indicate that, generally , exercise capacity is decreased while a diabetic is also metabolically less efficient than their non-diabetic counterpart. The good news is that the diabetic responds normally and appropriately to exercise training, thus proving beneficial by increasing physical work capacity, cardiovascular stability, self image, and lipid profile. Most importantly, exercise is associated with reduction in the insulin requirements necessary to achieve glucose control. Two other points need mentioning when discussing the benefits of regular physical activity:

1. An anti- obesity effect due to the increased caloric expenditure.
2. The satisfactionof being able to compete in a non-diabetic much inspiration to persevere.

Lastly, exercise is considered an important adjunct to diet in helping to lower complications associated with long term, uncontrolled diabetes by helping to reduce cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure, and body weight. For those individuals at risk for developing diabetes, a major study done at the University of California at Berkeley found that for every 500 calories expended during exercise, a person's risk is cut by 6%.

Here are your 5 Training Guidelines

IDDm patients must carefully coordinate the dose and timing of insulin injections with the exercise program. Typically they should check BS 30 minutes before and 1 hour after exercise.
Review symptoms of hypoglycemia with the patient before the exercise session.
Keep a record of activity, BS reading and symptoms.
Know the medications of the diabetic , especially as they impact HR and BP.
For IDDM insulin should be injected away from exercise muscle, preferably in the abdominal region. The injection should occur at least one hour before exercising.

I hope you enjoy and take this information to heart. Have a happy and healthy day!

Sincerely Yours,

Natalie Pyles

'How To Avoid Fad Diets'

'How To Avoid Fad Diets'

As fad diets come and go, the weight goes up and down.

When bathing suit season approaches, there’s always a diet that promises you’ll be thinner in six weeks. The appeal of these diets comes from the hope that we can be slim and trim with as little effort as possible. Most fad diets work in the beginning, usually because the suggested eating regimens help you cut calories in one way or another. But diets that restrict certain food groups or promise unrealistic results are difficult – or unhealthy – to sustain over time. As soon as you go back to your usual eating patterns, the weight comes piling back on. This creates the yo-yo effect of losing and regaining weight.

There is no magic bullet.

No matter which hook a fad diet is using, it isn’t reasonable to expect miraculous weight loss that will last. The trick is to find an everyday eating plan that not only keeps the pounds off but also provides the right balance of calories and nutrition – and that combination requires a lifestyle change.

While most fad diets result in quick weight loss early on, more research is needed on the effectiveness for long-term weight loss. If followed for a long time, these diets may result in potential health problems. To lose weight safely and effectively, you should eat an appropriate number of calories from a balanced diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and fat-free dairy products. Also cut back on the nutrient-poor foods, and be physically active.

You’ll know it’s a fad diet if it:

* Promises magic or miracle foods that burn fat.
* Requires you to eat unusual quantities of only one food or food type.
* Requires rigid menus of a limited selection of foods to be eaten at a specific time and day.
* Requires you to eat specific food combinations in certain sequences or combinations.
* Promises rapid weight loss of more than two pounds a week.
* Has no warning for those with diabetes or high blood pressure to seek medical advice before starting the diet.
* Does not include increased physical activity as part of the plan.

"Learn How To Eat with your stomach, not your eyes"

"Learn How To Eat with your stomach, not your eyes"

It's halfway through January and your initial enthusiasm for those fitness resolutions may be waning.
People grappling with diets often eat until their plate is clean, rather than when they feel full.

People grappling with diets often eat until their plate is clean, rather than when they feel full.

After maintaining an austere, healthy diet for a few weeks, the desire to eat a juicy cheeseburger proves too irresistible for some dieters.

"It's natural that most people when they are following a New Year's resolution or any program to change something in their life, that they will fall off the wagon or they'll have a setback or a failure," said Jillian Michaels, a personal trainer for NBC's show "The Biggest Loser."

Rather than beating yourself up after having a setback, learn from the missteps, experts say.

It's a matter of attitude, Michaels said. Learn from the setbacks and view "a failure as a point of learning, an opportunity to see what works and what doesn't."

For those grappling with diets,striving for moderation is a constant battle.

"We eat with our eyes, not out of our stomach," said Dr. Melina Jampolis, the diet and fitness expert for CNNhealth.com. "It's much more difficult to control serving sizes."

People have a tendency to keep eating until their plate is clean or the container of cookies is empty.

"A lot of people eat too much and their clothes feel tight. You shouldn't have to unbutton your pants, blouse or unzip anything after your meal," said Cheryl Forberg, the nutritionist for "The Biggest Loser." "You lose sight of your body's natural hunger cues."

To become more attuned to your body, avoid eating while standing up, sitting at the desk or inside a car, she said. Dedicate time for meals and snacks.

Rather than viewing meals as an obligatory part of the day, "learn to enjoy the process. At the same time, you begin to stop eating when you're comfortable, instead of when you have to unzip your jeans," Forberg said.

Avoid stocking problem foods like cookies or ice cream in the house if you know you can't resist them.

"When you know you have a weakness with chocolate or cookies, you probably shouldn't keep it in the house if you know you can't stop at one," she said.

One way to retrain the body is to divide snacks by portion sizes.

"Those 100-calories packs retrain people to the eye and decrease the snacking," Jampolis said. "It's more expensive and not environmentally friendly, but you're much better off getting a 100-calorie pack rather than eating out of container."

"If you're on a budget and you want to be more environmentally friendly, make your own. Every Sunday, measure 100 calories into seven Ziploc bags," she said. You can even recycle the bags.

"The Art Of Selecting a Wellness Coach"

Related:

* Consumer Education

How is your wellness? That is, how is your optimal physical and mental health? Just as you need to continually invest to grow your financial savings account, you also need to make small daily investments in your wellness account to live your best life.

What would you like to attain to feel really well in your life? High energy? Calm and balance under stress? A positive and optimistic mindset? A fit and strong body? A wellness coach can help you make the changes you most desire.

What should you look for in a coach? Margaret Moore (Coach Meg), MBA, chief executive officer of Wellcoaches Corporation and lead author of the forthcoming Coaching Psychology Manual for Physical & Mental Health Professionals (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins), explains below.
How a Coach Can Help

Wellness coaches are energizing in their commitment to help you live your life with high energy, clear focus and a positive and confident outlook. Coaches don’t make it easy by giving you answers. Rather, they are skilled partners; they join with you in creating an inspiring vision for your life, together with a pragmatic plan to move you closer to that vision. In the process, they help you dig out your strengths and insights from life’s clutter.

Typically, coaching is conducted via 30–45 minute telephone sessions every week or month.
Qualities of an Effective Coach

What skills does a coach need? Look for someone who

* is a great listener and enjoys your stories;
* fosters self-acceptance and self-respect;
* arouses, engages, energizes and challenges you to reach higher at the right moment;
* has a bird dog’s ability to sniff out your strengths, values and desires;
* takes risks and asks courageous questions;
* doesn’t rescue you from emotional muck (sometimes you need to sit in it for a bit to energize your desire to change. He or she knows that your life is at stake if you don’t take care of yourself);
* is playful when appropriate; and
* knows how to celebrate your successes.

Wellness coaching is not therapy. A therapist treats diagnosable mental disorders. A wellness coach assumes that you are already doing some things well and that you wish to do them better or to develop other aspects of your life.
Training for Coaches

Wellness coaches are practitioners of the new field of coaching psychology that helps people implement the theories of positive psychology, which is the scientific study of happiness and well-being.

Reputable coach-training programs require 6 months to 2 years of training and coaching practice, followed by a certification process that measures core coaching competencies. Becoming a master coach, even for those with natural coaching talent, requires months of training and years of practice.

Over the past 20 years, dozens of life and corporate coach-training schools, as well as university programs, have trained more than 20,000 coaches worldwide; in the past 5 years, health and wellness coach-training programs have emerged.
SIDEBAR: Interviewing Coaches

When talking to potential coaches, ask questions such as the following to determine whether a coach is the right fit for your needs:

1. What licenses or credentials do you have, and what type of training do these licenses or credentials entail?
2. What type of background do you have? (Certified wellness coaches come from diverse backgrounds such as personal trainers, exercise physiologists, nurses, dietitians, physicians, psycho-therapists and more.)
3. What aspects of wellness coaching do you specialize in? (Different coaches cover diverse areas of well-being, such as stress management, healthy sleep habits, weight management, work issues, family or relationship issues and smoking reduction.)
4. What would be a typical format for one of your coaching sessions? What support would you provide? What would I be responsible for?
5. What do you charge?

" The Inner Game Of Health And Fitness" Part 1

"The Inner Game Of Health And Fitness" Part 1

"There is an Inner Game to Everything said W. Timothy Gallwey. He should know, Gallwey has written several books on " Inner Game" playing. The most popular are The Inner game of Tennis, The Inner Game of Golf, and The Inner game of Skiing. My personal favorite is the one he co-authored with Bary Green, The Inner Game Of Music.

There's an inner game of Your self- Image when it comes to your Health And Fitness too, and it plays a major role in developing Your Wellness Vision. Let me prove it to you by applying the Inner Game principles to Health and Fitness.

Self One: The Belittler

When you've decided and attempted to approach a weight-loss program, diet, or tried to incorporate healthier lifestyle changes in the past and discovered a little voice in your head judging your plan? You might hear it right now. It's the voice that tells you your plan is good or lousy (usually the latter). You may be used to this well-intended unseen companion that you don't know he's there in your head. But he's there, Believe me. And it's the inner Belittler called self one in The Inner Game that stops you from exercise, eating, and living fully to enjoy your recreational hobbies, sports, and fitness, etc. Your health and fitness should be approached with ease, flow, and add value and purpose to your life. Don't let self one the not so good buddy prevent you from exploring whats possible for you. The better you is there you just need to discover it my friend. Go for it take the leap and move towards the better you when it comes to your physical, spiritual, intellectual, and emotional self. Do that which you were born to be and live with joy!

We will explore Self Two: The Master in this two part series of "The Inner Game of Health And Fitness" Bye for now and keep those thoughts Focused on all that you are becoming that is good.

"Warning! The Dangers of Dairy Revealed"

"Warning! The Dangers Of Dairy Revealed!

Countless scientists and charities as well as government agencies spend hundreds of hours a week analyzing cancer research, and now dairy products have come under the microscope. The latest research from the United States reveals that the hormones cows secrete into milk are suppressing genes that usually detect and kill cancer cells as they develop and increasing the receptors on cells that promote cancerous mutations.

The aim of this article is to bring the proven research to your attention and describe in better detail the mechanism of how dairy actually alters your own genetic cellular makeup, thereby allowing cancerous cells to develop. I will also discuss the reversibility of this epigenetic mutation by eliminating dairy consumption and increasing intake of certain other nutrients that protect these cells.

Hormones in Cow’s Milk

Grosvenor et al describes that a cow secretes hormones into its milk to allow the young underdeveloped calf to grow. The same hormone and substance content can be found in human breast milk. If you know your anatomy and physiology, a human infant or young calf has a poorly developed endocrine (hormonal) system. Thus, it would only be wise for nature to elect one parent to carry a mechanism to transport not only nutrients but hormones to their young. However, for us humans, most products we consume orally eventually enter our bloodstream via the stomach or the intestines. So if cows naturally secrete hormones into their milk, we are practically ingesting animal hormones straight into our bodies. Knowing this, it should be easy to understand that current dairy products are harmful. It is easy to draw parallels to the damage caused by injecting or orally administering the use of anabolic steroids. Essentially with dairy products, you are orally ingesting ANIMAL hormones into your bloodstream, hormones composed of mainly estrogen as well. Once in the blood stream (as these hormones survive digestion in the stomach), they then have access to the whole human body and combine at certain receptor sites, where they exhibit their effects.

To appreciate the real damage milk and related products such as cheese and those ever-more-popular whey protein shakes can do, let’s analyze the contents of cow’s milk. The following are some of the compounds found naturally in cow’s milk:

* Estrogens (Female Hormones)
* Androgens (Male Hormones)
* IGF-1 (Insulin like growth factor-1)
* Prolactins
* Leptins
* Epidermal and transforming growth factors

Of all these ingredients, it’s the IGF-1 that appears to be the main culprit for increasing the development of cancerous tumours. The full mechanism can be read in Dr. Bibb’s book, “Deadly Dairy Deception,” but essentially, IGF-1 exerts a powerful effect on the p53 gene at the receptor known as IGF-R1 (type 1 insulin growth factor receptor). At this receptor, a number of cellular responses occur, including proliferation and the protection of cells from programmed cell death (apoptosis). This results in the effect seen in Figure 1 below, where cells with a mutation inside divide uncontrollably as apoptosis of abnormal cells is suppressed.

Figure 1 - Abnormal apoptosis,
causing a cancerous colony to develop

The turning off of a gene is better known as hypermethylation or epigenetic mutation. This epigenetic mutation has been proven in the laboratory to be “heritable” and thus passed onto your children. This is due to the hypermethylated cells leaving “molecular footprints” that can be used as markers for constructing new cells of this nature, which means your children probably aren’t safe from your current dairy intake either. One study has shown that prenatal nutritional and metabolic events are memorized or “imprinted” by the developing organism that may result in the development of diseases in adult life.

In healthy cell division, the p53 gene should cause natural cell death in either aged or defective cells as illustrated in Figure 2 below.

Figure 2 - Natural cell death or apoptosis,
where an abnormal cell is programmed to die

It isn’t just the IGF-1 molecules that are dangerous in milk and similar products. It is also the estrogens that are consumed. The full mechanism of the estrogen in prostate cancer and hormone-sensitive breast cancer is also complex and can be further understood in Bibb’s aforementioned book. Essentially, these estrogens bind to cells via estrogen receptor alpha and over stimulate the development of cancerous cells. This enhances the effect of IGF-1, which suppresses the p53 gene and which would normally perform apoptosis and program these cells for elimination. In effect, what you have is one protein hormone (IGF-1) that suppresses your cell defence and another steroid hormone (estrogens) that simultaneously stimulates cancerous mutations. Together, you have a very dangerous cocktail. That’s how cells seen in Figure A develop so easily, especially as these compounds are hormones. Being a hormone, it exerts powerful effects on its receptor cell. Thus, estrogens and IGF-1 work very well together at producing the exact same effect but via different receptors, making them excellent accomplices in this cancer debacle. This means children and adults are consuming a dangerous concoction of hormones and protein hormones in staple foods such as macaroni and cheese, milkshakes, yoghurt, pizza, protein bars, protein shakes and cheese burgers. A full list of foods to avoid can be found below:

* All Milk: Skimmed, non fat, 2%, half & half, evaporated, etc
* All Cheeses: Cottage, vegetarian, organic, light, cream cheese, etc
* Milk Protein Concentrates: Whey protein, whey protein isolates, casein
* All Cream: Light and heavy whipped, sour cream, etc
* All Caseins: Hydrolysates, calcium caseinate, magnesium, caseinate, etc
* Milk Powders: Whole, non-fat milk
* All Ice Cream
* All Yoghurts

Hormones and the Cancer Link

Cancer is a group of cells that have been modified so that they do not die! According to Bibb, if a gene that causes a cell to die becomes defective or conversely, a gene that keeps a cell from dying becomes defective, then a cell can become “immortal” and pass this gift onto its daughter cells when it divides. This gift is then passed on down the generations of cell division, and soon you will have developed a group of cells that do not die. This is what is known as a cancer. This is how it is with prostrate cancer, for example. The p53 gene causes cells to die and has been found to be defective in prostrate and in many other cancers. In the lab, prostate and estrogen receptor positive breast cancer tissue behave similarly. Therefore, it is likely that what is said about one is true of another.

It is through this combined effect that a tumour develops as the cells divide and reproduce defectively, which is why all cancers get worse or grow over time. These cancer cells are going through natural cell division (mitosis) and passing on their cancerous information onto future daughter cells. The prostate gland, as with other glands, is stimulated by many types of hormones and proteins. These hormones and proteins produce their effect by attaching to the numerous receptors that have thus far been identified. It is these receptors that play an important role in determining the health of a gland and whether the individual will develop cancer from abnormal stimulation of these receptors.

Is Dairy Ever Safe?

If the dairy is treated like it was in the late 1920s when milk was first introduced, it would then be safe for consumption. A brief history lesson tells us that vitamin D is not a natural ingredient of milk. In the early 1900s, Ricketts was a disease of epidemic proportion due to a diet lacking in vitamin D. This discovery was made by one very clever biochemist, Dr Harry Steenbock at the University of Madison, Wisconsin. Dr. Steenbock exposed cow’s milk to ultra violet light and found that a compound called “ergosterol” would immediately convert to vitamin D upon exposure to certain wave lengths of UV light. Steenbock even won a patent for his work at curing Rickets by his process of UV exposure to milk in its manufacturing process. According to Bibb, Steenbock also inadvertently helped prevent people of his time from developing prostate and breast cancer in a way he can never appreciate. We now know his method also denatures the dangerous IGF-1 molecule and the estrogens by breaking down the disulphide bonds that keep IGF-1 active and that bind to estrogens in the milk. This process of ultra violet light exposure was used until the mid 1940s, where it became more economical to synthetically manufacture vitamin D and add it to the milk later.

An Increase of Prostate and Breast Cancer

Discussed earlier was the concept of epigenetic mutation, which is the “heritable” capacity of turning your genes off by leaving molecular footprints in your DNA. Thus, only now are we experiencing the unfortunate side effects of the evolution of the dairy foods process. This means the children from the 1940s are more prone to prostate and breast cancer as their gene protection systems are becoming weaker and weaker with time. This is due to each generation exposing themselves to IGF-1 and estrogens, except each parent weakens their p53 gene number, leaving their children with less unharmed p53 genes and so on, until now we really start to notice when we receive reports of teenagers with breast cancer and young men with prostate cancer. Until milk is treated again with UV light, we are going to continue to see young females looking like adult women and younger ages of people with prostate and breast cancer. The signs are all around us. Who else can explain why Western school girls are so more mature for their age compared to Asian, Japanese or other Eastern societies that do not consume large amounts of dairy? Scientists have noticed these trends by looking at dietary practices from 1986 to the present day, specifically noting the relationship between increased dairy consumption and increased risk of prostate cancer. This trend is even more evident in the black community.

The Role of Race in Prostate Cancer Incidence

The incidence of prostate cancer has been found to be significantly higher in black men than white men in certain regions of the world including the United States, the United Kingdom and in the African Caribbean (see Figure 3 below).

Figure 3 - Prostate cancer incidence 1975-1994 for
black men vs white men. Top line represents black men.

The reasons why black men are more prone to prostate cancer are researched and available, but the largest reason is the fact that they are born with higher levels of prostate specific antigen (PSA). This antigen is responsible for releasing more free IGF-1 into the body as it digests a binding protein called “IGF-1 binding protein-3.” To make matters worse, Tricoli et al and Winter et al concluded studies that found black men with age matched controls have lower levels of IGF-1 binding protein-3, which means they have a natural ability to free IGF-1 than white men, but they already have more IGF-1 circulating as well! Therefore, black men (and women) really do not need dairy products to increase their IGF-1 levels any further, as this can increase their incidence of cancer considerably. The table below details the massive change in prostate cancer incidence in black men in the US versus black men from Africa:

U.S.
(State)

Prostate Cancer
Incidence

Country

Prostate Cancer
Incidence

Florida

224.8*

Gambia

4.7

New York

246.5

Mali, Bamako

7.6
*per 100,000

From the research data, a trend toward higher incidences of prostate cancer in colder climates versus warmer climates in black men was also noted. This can largely be attributed to the vitamin D effect discussed earlier, which naturally occurs in skin exposed to UV light. In the same study, the authors concluded that dietary supplementation of vitamin D could reduce the risk of prostate and several other types of cancers they researched (the daily dose would be a range of 1200-2000 iu per day).

Alternatives to Dairy

Now that you have a greater understanding of the dangers of dairy, it is time to discuss what alternatives can be used instead to lower your risk of prostate and breast cancer. Listed below are some alternatives to milk from a protein as well as calcium perspective:

Bee Pollen Granules
Nutritional Benefits: Bee pollen contains around 50 percent protein, much of which is in the form of free amino acids. It is also high in the B complex vitamins and enzymes.

Unflavored Gelatin
Nutritional Benefits: Gelatin (Gelatine) is made from the collagen protein found in bone, skin and cartilage. When beef or pork are boiled, the collagen is extracted and changes into gelatin. Our gelatin is an excellent source of protein containing over 85 percent protein. Typical usage is four teaspoons per day. Gelatin may be mixed in non carbonated juices or with foods.

Brown Rice/Rice Protein
Nutritional Benefits: Brown Rice/Rice Protein contains 80 percent protein. Rice Protein Concentrate is made from Non GMO Sprouted Brown Rice Grains. The amino acid profile is approximately 98 percent similar to mother's milk. A vegan hypo-allergenic natural grain protein concentrate, brown rice/rice protein has a strong flavor profile as some of the protein is in free amino acids.

Organic Hemp Protein Powder
Nutritional Benefits: An organic food with 37 percent protein, 10 percent beneficial fats, 43 percent fiber (90% soluble, 10% insoluble), chlorophyll, magnesium, zinc and iron. Hempseed is one of nature's most perfect superfoods. One serving provides 11 grams of raw organic protein and a whopping 14 grams of fiber (54% of the RDI). Hemp contains all eight essential amino acids with the bonus of essential fatty acids.

Organic Blue-Green Algae Powder
Nutritional Benefits: This rare superfood is a protein powerhouse. It provides a highly bioavailable protein that is 80 percent assimilated in our bodies (compared to meat protein, which is 20% assimilated), and its amino acid profile is optimal for humans. Klamath Lake algae is also the world's most concentrated source of chlorophyll, a valuable phytonutrient considered by many to be one of nature's most cleansing and regenerating substances.

SciVation Xtend
Nutritional Benefits: Xtend is a precise, scientific blend of Energy Aminos consisting of the proven 2:1:1 ratio of Branched Chain Amino Acids (L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine and L-Valine), Glutamine, Citrulline Malate, and Vitamin B6 that will give you the energy you need to maximize your training while enhancing recovery at the same time.

Egg Protein, Egg White and Egg Protein Powder
Nutritional Benefits: Egg protein is commonly referred to as the "perfect protein," and it is the common reference to which other proteins are compared. Two values are commonly used to evaluate protein quality: protein digestibility corrected amino acid score (PDCAA) and biological value (BV). BV measures the amount of protein retained from the absorbed protein. Egg protein scores 100 percent on the BV, meaning all protein ingested from the egg is used by the body. Egg protein contains all eight essential amino acids required by the body.

Alternative Protein Sources

Food Description Calcium Content (Mg)
Cooked collards-one cup 357
Canned spinach-one cup 272
Cooked soybeans-one cup 261
Cooked Turnip greens 249
Bread crumbs-one cup 218
Cooked white beans-one cup 191
Canned Salmon-3 oz 181
Cooked beet greens 164
Slice of corn bread 162
Tomato soup-one cup 159
Cooked cabbage 158
Egg & sausage biscuit 155
Tofu one serving 133
Cooked Okra 123
Milk reduced fat (+ Vit D added) 285
Milk Whole 3.25% fat 276

The biggest opposing factor I have seen when approaching people about this life saving issue is not that they don’t believe me or the research, it’s that they are extremely habitual dairy users. People like the taste of dairy in their diets and have a well established habit of dairy consumption. The best we can do to combat resistance is offer strong, healthy alternatives to dairy right off the bat. Educate your clients on the pasteurization process used on milk, which is an archaic method to prevent harmful bacteria entering our bodies. As pasteurization involves subjecting milk to high temperatures of heat treatment, this also kills good bacteria (as heat is a non selective procedure) and denatures much of the protein contained in the product. Also, as we age, we lose the enzyme lactate dehydrogenase, which allows us to process lactose. This is why many people have stomach bloating or uncomfortable reactions to dairy products or products containing dairy. These are just a few of the effective arguments you can present to your clients when educating them on the dangers of some dairy products and suggesting they find alternative sources of protein.

Become an Active Participant in Your Own Life

Become an Active Participant in Your Own Life

In my 25 years as a healthcare practitioner, I’ve come to notice an important trend in the way that most people view themselves and their health. Our current medical mindset is fixated on treatment. When I say “our” mindset, I don’t just mean that of the professionals themselves. If a patient goes to their doctor for a treatment, they expect their problems to be fixed or taken away. This puts the onus of the recovery on the practitioner or therapist and in most cases the patient is just a passive observer in the healing process, apart from perhaps taking some pills or receiving injections.

Let me illustrate with an example I saw in a documentary. Recently, Morgan Spurlock’s (creator and director of the documentary Super Size Me) 30 Days series aired an episode with a former college athlete, Scott. Though only in his early 30’s, age and lifestyle hadn’t been too kind to Scott and he now found himself out of shape, becoming overweight and losing his libido. What made this episode interesting isn’t the predicament that Scott found himself in. It was what he chose to do about it. Though he did change his diet and begin to exercise, the main component to his plan was an anti-aging program, complete with growth hormones and testosterone injections. Why weren’t the dietary and fitness changes sufficient? Why not give those changes in lifestyle the chance to return Scott to his college-level fitness and physique? The answer is the treatment mindset. Most of society wants someone else to fix their problems and to fix them now. Unfortunately for Scott, the quick fix wasn’t really any kind of fix at all. Though he did lose substantial weight, he didn’t last 30 days on his ant-aging regimen. As the show documents, Scott’s sperm count plunged from over 50 million healthy sperm at the treatment’s beginning to zero in a matter of weeks. His liver started to malfunction and he began to experience mood swings. Coming to their senses, Scott and his wife decided that the side effects weren’t worth the results and he discontinued the treatments.

For many healthcare professionals, the treatment mindset is perfectly fine because they get their identity or feed their ego based on their ability to fix people. I’ve done it myself – I used to think of myself as a very good body mechanic. But the better you get, the tougher your clients get. In fact, at some point, if you get good enough, you will run into clients whose difficulties can’t be resolved just by altering diet or creating a new exercise program. I know that I have to make it clear to my clients that they are going to need a deep understanding of themselves and take part in their own life. Their role in their health cannot be a passive role. They must actively seek to understand their life and to change it in ways that lead to wellbeing.

I want to make a larger point here for all of my readers. This medical mindset is part of a more general attitude towards life possessed by many westerners. It’s not just the case that many of us fail to take an active role in the health of our body. Rather we are encouraged in many ways to let others make decisions for us. We’re inundated with commercials and other forms of marketing directed at influencing us to believe in certain ways – about the kinds of foods to eat, clothes to wear, cars to drive, who to vote for, what to worship and what to buy. There are social pressures from friends and family to conform to various conventions and habits. In short, we are bombarded with others’ opinions and discouraged from forming our own beliefs. In the end it’s easy to form the habit of just waiting submissively for someone to come along and tell us how to behave or what to think. The consequence is passivity towards our dreams, towards ourselves and towards others. Why is it that so many people fail to choose a career that challenges and enlivens them? It’s because they don’t consciously embrace the belief that they are in charge of their own life. They let life do them rather than doing life. It is when we fail to actively explore what it is that we want in life and how we can create that life for ourselves that we begin to experience most of life’s stresses.

I teach all of my clients, students and employees that one can’t have healthy relationships with others until they’ve developed a healthy relationship with themselves. Seen in that light, the passive mindset I’ve just described is even more damaging. It doesn’t just inhibit your ability to develop a healthy relationship with yourself, it gets in the way of developing genuine relationships with others as well. In more ways than one, it is this general passivity that creates the stresses that bring most of the clients I see to my doorstep.

The key to overcoming this passivity is to recognize your own power and potential for control as part of your conscious mindset. I emphasize the word “conscious” here because when pressed, most people will tell you that of course they are in control of their lives. Knowing in the abstract that you are making your life’s choices or that you could be making them isn’t enough to avoid the problems I’ve described. You must have the belief that it is your will driving your life firmly in front of you when you make your decisions – it must figure in to how you choose a course of action. To recognize your power of choice in every decision means embracing the responsibility for your life’s direction and at the same time realizing that if you don’t like the course of your life, you can change it. If you can do this, you’ll find that you are more careful about your choices and that those choices are enlivened by the knowledge that you have the power to transform your life at any time.

Now I don’t want anyone to think that being an active participant in their own life means that they have to do everything for themselves. In fact, once you know what your dreams are and you are actively working towards them, you may find yourself delegating more responsibilities to others so that you can spend your energy more efficiently. Being an active participant in the construction of your own life is about having a vision of what you want that life to be, developing a plan to realize that vision and then enacting that plan. So even if you are delegating tasks, you are still actively directing the energies around you to reach your goals.

Shedding the passive mindset that infects so many people may be the best thing you ever do for yourself. Once you do let go, you’ll find yourself motivated to direct your life in the way that you want, rather than towards what others want. If you are someone that writes out their personal goals, make the recognition of your own power one of your goals. If you don’t write out your goals, start doing it! Writing down your goals is the first step to recognizing that you have the power to direct your life. Each time you set a goal and achieve it you’ll have more confidence in your ability to achieve. So start setting goals, drop that passive mindset and you’ll find yourself more excited about your life than ever!

" Why You Should Use My Fat-Loss For Idiots Guide To Achieve Maximum Results!" Part 1

This will be Part 1 to a 3 part series of " Why You Should Use My Fat-Loss For Idiots Guide To Achieve Maximum Results!"

You are overweight for one of three reasons because one you're eating the wrong foods, two you're eating the wrong types of calories per meal, or three you're eating the wrong meals in the wrong meal frequency each day.

Think closely about what I'm about to tell you since it's going to change the way you think about dieting once and for all. At least that is my hopes for you in the long hall.

Food Is more powerful than you will ever know and it is more powerful than any prescription weight-loss pills, because the food that you eat can either work for you or agaist you. Let me repeat that food can either make you THIN or make you FAT. You don't get fat because of lack of exercising, thats a myth. You get fat because you don't eat the right foods at the right intervals each day.

Also, the pattern that you choose to eat your meals each day is more powerful than any presciption weight loss pills. This is true because Your body is like an engine and it only needs certain foods at certain intervals each day, and if you don't eat the right times your body won't utilize that fuel to burn those calories- and you will wind up storing those calories as fat tissue. ( Clue: You need to eat more than three meals per day to lose weight, but I'll talk to you more on the details later).

You have gotten over weight by eating the wrong foods at the wrong times in the wrong frequency. And guess what you can get SLIM by eating the RIGHT foods at the right times, in the right amounts, and right frequency each day.

I'ts not really any more complicated than that , and the way to start losing weight has nothing to do with starving yourself or jogging 2 hours a day.

The reason You cannot lose weight by starving your body ( using a low calorie diet) is because your metabolism will detect any major drop in calories and it will then adjust itself by burning fewer and fewer calories each day.

Let this be your first part of this 3 part series " Why You Should Use My Fat Loss For Idiots Guide To Maximize Your Results!" Let this sink in your mind and be a lesson to you of what not to do. Now, Stop Dieting and start thinking more about Intelligible Eating and Exercise. Thats another series altogether that I will be writing about so stay tuned for Part 2 and by for now.

" How To Use The Metabolic Typing Method For Your Nutritional Needs"

" How To Use The Metabolic Typing Method For Your Nutritional Needs"

Metabolic typing is the buzz across the industry at the moment. Read on to find out why the science is dominating the headlines and how it should be used if your clients are trying to lose weight or improve their health.

Metabolic typing is the science of personalized nutrition. It is a highly accurate system of determining the foods and nutrients your body needs. Metabolic typing answers the foundational questions of nutrition by telling you:

1. What to eat
2. How much to eat
3. What foods to specifically avoid
4. All other aspects of nutrition including supplements, food quality, etc.

Before I discuss how metabolic typing answers these fundamentals, I must first explain to you why this science is necessary. The health of a food is not so much related to the qualities of the food but instead to the qualities of the food and it's relationship to your body. You've probably had clients who do not lose much weight despite sticking to a fairly "healthy" diet. The reason behind this is that the "healthy" diet they are following (or trying to follow!) is in fact unhealthy for them specifically. To label a food as "healthy," it must have a balancing effect on one's body chemistry (metabolic type).

The reasons healthy foods differ between individuals stems from the way humans have evolved into such unique individuals. To understand this, first ask yourself how many people look exactly the same as you in appearance? The answer is most likely no one, and yet all of us have the same features (i.e., nose, eyes, mouth, etc). Inside we are the same. We all have the same structures, organs, tissues and enzymes, and yet the size, efficiency and concentration of these varies greatly between individuals, just as our external appearance. The variety seen within us has occurred from thousands of years of evolution. As humans moved across the globe, they adapted to the foods before them through natural selection. This caused humans to adapt differently among the many international tribal groups. This was confirmed by Dr. Weston A. Price, who charted the vast differences seen in native tribes. The starkest contrast was between the Eskimos who ate a diet almost totally of protein and fat from seal and fish to the South American tribes who ate an almost totally carbohydrate diet from fruit and berries. Think how many fruits grow in the artic circle? Humans had to adapt to living off the other foods available, or they would have died. Despite this total contradiction of diets observed by Dr. Price, neither group showed any signs of cancer, heart disease, dental problems or mental illness.

The evidence showed that humans adapted to their natural environment just like any other animal. The problem today is that we cannot chart our genetic heritage. Natural selection happens over many generations. It is almost impossible and unwise to look at your family tree to discover what foods to eat. The answer is metabolic typing, designed to discover your unique nutritional needs as you function and live today.

To briefly review the scientific basis of metabolic typing, the theory analyzes 10 systems within the body thought to control all the behavior of the millions of chemicals reactions that occur in your body. To be truly healthy, you first need to discover where your 10 systems lie at the moment. You then need to consume the foods and nutrients that seek to balance these while avoiding any nutrients that will disrupt the systems. Using metabolic typing, we can answer the fundamental questions outlined previously.

What Should I Eat?

It is the role of the main two systems that provide the exact answer to this question. In order to know what you need to eat, you must be classified along your autonomic nervous system and oxidation system. In simple terms, the autonomic nervous system regulates involuntary action, as of the intestines, heart and glands. The oxidation system refers to how the body processes food to produce energy.

It is possible to classify people along these systems by looking at traits associated with different ends of the two systems. For example, if you have a client who has strong hunger, they are showing one sign of a fast oxidation rate. Those who do not want to eat very often are showing a slow oxidation trait. When you analyze a further 150 of these traits associated within each system, it is possible to build a picture of your body’s behavior and classify you along these two systems.

Your classification along these systems is what is known as your metabolic type. Further analysis of the other eight systems gives a more detailed look at your metabolic type, allowing higher levels of health to be attained.

Once your metabolic type is known, it is vital you eat the foods to balance your systems. For example, if your oxidation system was too fast, we would eat foods to slow your system down. Or if the fight or flight (sympathetic) branch of your nervous system was too strong, we would support the other rest and recovery branch (parasympathetic) by eating the appropriate, stimulating foods.

Putting the science of metabolic typing aside, the main thing you need to know is there is no one diet or food that will balance everyone’s body chemistry. Therefore, in order to be healthy, you must know exactly where you are at the moment and which foods are needed to balance your systems. For example, certain vegetables commonly believed to be "good for us" can in fact unbalance certain metabolic types.

A final point to note is the difference between this and the traditional protein, carbohydrate and mixed metabolic typing protocol. This is an easy to use but less specific analysis. This more simplistic test often does not reveal the true metabolic type of many people and does not classify people along the two major systems. The reason it works is that the fast oxidizers and parasympathetics have similar needs as do sympathetic and slow oxidizers. However, there are many real and significant differences between the classifications. It is a question of how far you want to take your health. Do you want to use the general guide, or do you want to find out the specific foods that will make you and your clients truly healthy?

How Much Should I Eat?

When you are eating the right foods, you will go a long way towards achieving your goals. To complement this, you must also eat these foods in the right amounts. This is important because, to ensure metabolic typing is successful and allow the body to be healthy, the cells must be able to effectively utilize energy. This can occur only when the cells receive everything they need in the right amounts. This depends very much on the type of food you eat (as determined above) but also the relative ratios of protein, carbohydrates and fat consumed.

We do not all need to consume the same amounts of protein, carbohydrates and fat at each meal. Each metabolic type will have a ball park amount that should be explored based on what the body needs. This can vary greatly between individuals, even those of the same metabolic type. It also varies during different times of the day.

When the right amounts are consumed, the body effectively can produce energy within the cells. This gives off a series of positive body language signals (e.g., high energy, low food cravings, etc). When the wrong proportions are eaten, negative reactions occur such as sugar cravings, hunger pangs soon after eating, energy dips, etc. These are all signs that the meal was miscalculated and in need of further investigation. This is central to metabolic typing programs and ensures clients achieve long term results.

What Foods Should I Avoid?

Metabolic typing looks closely at the issues of what foods to avoid, as this can upset the balance in one or more of the body’s 10 systems. Primary to the theory is avoiding non metabolically correct foods. Remember, this includes certain vegetables and fruits.

Isolating intolerances to certain foods is vital to success. A food intolerance is the negative reactions of the body to a certain food source. It occurs because the body has difficulty in handling the food for a variety of reasons. Any food can become intolerant to your body, but it is usually the most commonly eaten foods that develop into intolerances, especially those with certain properties, making them more difficult to handle. Some very common food intolerances include pasteurized dairy, wheat (gluten) and oats. Any health attempt will be totally undermined if you are eating foods to which you are intolerant.

To lose weight, it is essential you allow your endocrine glands to be at their optimal health. This fundamental system looks at which one gland is more active in comparison to others. These glands (adrenal, thyroid, pituitary and ovaries) will influence the pattern in which you store your body fat. Look at your clients. Do they store most of their fat below the waist? On their stomachs? All over their bodies? These are clues about the internal body chemistry of the endocrine glands. It is believed over reliance on the specific foods that excite your dominant gland can play a major role in fat storage. To lose fat, we therefore restrict the specific foods that stimulate your dominant gland, allowing balance to be restored to this system.

Blood type influences are dependent on the blood type interactions with specific proteins called lectins. In certain individuals, this can cause food intolerances, immune responses and agglutination of the blood, leading to many negative health complaints. Therefore, the blood type recommendations refer to which foods to avoid within the nutrition plan.

Other Issues

Food quality and preparation technique are a foundation of any metabolic typing regime. Eating inferior food products can completely undermine the effect of that food on your metabolic type. In addition to this, metabolic typing looks at the issues of supplements and tailors a few specific supplements to increase metabolism, restore and maintain digestive function and make up for the short fall of current nutrition practices.

In summary, metabolic typing allows you to discover exactly what foods to eat, how much of them to eat and what foods to avoid. It covers all aspects of nutrition and supplements. It is rapidly growing because it is the most sophisticated and accurate system of finding out your individual needs. Its rise in popularity is because it gets amazing results with all types of clients.
